UAG, TMG, and other G's

This Forefront business has been quite a conundrum for a while: 

  • Old news first - TMG is being discontinued, you can read more about it here
  • UAG marches on, at least for now. And hopefully will soon catch up with a slew of already released products - like Exchange 2013, SharePoint 2013, Windows 8, IE10, etc. - by actually supporting them. That stuff is coming in SP3 (Q1 2013)
  • And while you are waiting for the SP3 to arrive, here's a quick post on how to fix one of the issues commonly associated with the SP2 upgrade - "The URL contains an invalid parameter" error

Skype for Business and VTC Interoperability

I can't think of any other platform that shows as much promise in terms of bridging personal and business communications as well as unifying different modes and mediums. WordPress displays weird characters

Sometimes after a database conversion (e.g. from MySQL to MariaDB) or due to encoding issues a situation might arise when WordPress is showing weird characters. A quick way of remedying the situation would involve examining the pages to discover a pattern (what characters are being substituted, in the example below the apostrophe was replaced by  ’ ) then running an queries against the database to reverse the effect. Business Intelligence, the Microsoft style

Of course, Microsoft has been in the Business Intelligence (BI) game for some time now, but until now the solution sets lacked focus, clarity, consistency, and homogeneity. Well, in my opinion that is. But wait no longer, the company is bringing its a game to BI with clear and concise messaging and a much more focused and simplified tool set: Excel – one authoring tool for your BI. And a great “ Personal BI ” solution. SharePoint – the best solution for sharing, collaborating, and adding mobility (tablets, smartphones) to your BI. And a great “ Group BI ” solution. SQL Server – rock solid high-performance, high-availability data platform for supporting very large data sets, and providing reporting, analysis, and integration services. And a great “ Corporate BI ” solution. As far as BI solutions go, it hardly gets any simpler than that.
